President Jennifer Sampson called meeting to order at 7:06pm.
The minutes from September have been posted on the website and on the bulletin board outside the MP room. These minutes will be voted on at the next general meeting.
Jennifer reported that the open auditor position has been filled. Irum Musharraf has been appointed auditor for the 2011 – 12 school year.
Stephanie Compton presented the Books Inc. contract for the upcoming fundraiser (see attached contract). There will not be a fall book fair this year as Keplers no longer holds book fairs. The book fair team has combined efforts with the restaurant fundraiser team and will hold a fundraiser at Books Inc. on the same evenings (Dec. 6th and 8th) as a restaurant fundraiser at Hobbee’s in Town & Country Shopping Center. 20% of purchases at Books Inc will be donated to Ohlone. The Spring book fair will be at Ohlone with Banana Seed. Deepa Lalla moved to approve the contract with Books Inc. It was seconded and the motion passed.
Lillian mentioned that Cheeky Monkey will give 10% of purchases back to Ohlone from November 28th through Dec 9th. Shoppers must mention Ohlone at the time of purchase.
Jennifer presented the Ohlone PTA event calendar. The schedule of upcoming events must be approved by PTA general membership in order to activate our insurance. Evan Lurie made a motion to approve the calendar as presented. It was seconded and the motion passed.
Deb Whitman presented the Finance Report. Checks #1490 – 1500 and 2726-2752 were presented. Grace Mah made a motion to ratify the checks presented in the transaction report. . It was seconded and the motion passed.
Lillian presented the numbers from the One Check form. Ohlone has 582 kids enrolled which represent 420 families. The PTA membership stands at 537 members that represent 391 families. The Library donations were $7952 and the Farm donations were $15,587. Almost 200 t-shirts and 451 yearbooks were ordered. Only 20 families did not return a one-check form.
Deb presented a list of funds to be released by the membership for spending between the October and January general meetings. Jane Dick made a motion to release budgeted funds to pay for upcoming events as presented. It was seconded and the motion passed.
Laura Wingard made a request that everyone sign up for Escrip and shop online using the Escrip portal “At the Online Mall”. A percentage of funds will be given to Ohlone. Even if you are not a member of Escrip, you can shop through the Escrip portal.
Jennifer presented a possible student assembly with Spencer West if he is available. Cost would be up to $3000. Stephanie Compton made a motion that we approve up to $3000 to have 3 assemblies with Spencer West. It was seconded and the motion passed.
Jennifer informed us that the PTA will grant up to $500 to the PE teachers for equipment.
Deb Whitman made a motion to release the $3000 for Spencer West and $500 for the PE equipment. It was seconded and the motion passed.
Maria Marriott, the special education liaison for Ohlone, reported improved connection between students that receive special ed services and the general student population. Abilities Awareness week is next week – Oct 24th – 28th. Volunteers will be going into each classroom conducting activities to demonstrate challenges that some children face. She is still looking for volunteers.
Maria Abilock, Traffic Safety committee, reported that they will be promoting alternate transportation. She then reviewed traffic do’s and don’ts.
The General Meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
A parent education presentation followed regarding meeting the individual needs of students.

President Jennifer Sampson called meeting to order at 8:27 am.
Jennifer welcomed everyone. She encouraged volunteers to help when able, but cautioned over-doing it. Respect your boundaries. Volunteer at a level that feels good for you.
Jennifer introduced the PTA executive board for this year, and announced that we have an open Auditor position.
Principal’s report
Bill Overton gave an overview of the construction. The Friends’ gate will remain closed until the landscaping is complete. This will be about the same time as the building is completed. He would like to see some supervision added at the Friends’ gate. A possibility to alleviate traffic congestion is to set up a supervised drop-off location near the school and then conduct a “walking bus” to the school. Other traffic concerns include the confusion around the new biking lane vs. pedestrian lane and the red curb & handicap
parking spot in the drop-off lane.
Jennifer Sampson announced that the Traffic Safety Rep committee has two interested volunteers: Maria Abilock and Elizabeth Alexis.
A discussion ensued regarding PiE, PTA, Site, and Discretionary funds, and how each type of money is spent on different items at the school.
Minutes from previous meeting
Minutes from the meeting last May will be presented for approval at the next General meeting in October.
Transaction Report
Heike Enders presented transactions issued since the last General Meeting. Thes transactions were approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Deb Whitman presented the 2011-12 Budget. See attached presentation. Nico Janik made a motion to approve the budget with the stated amendments. It was seconded and the motion passed.
World Language Contracts
Ganka Hadjipetrova presented contracts for the independent contractors (teachers) of the
World Language program. See attached contract. New in this year’s contract:
• Teacher must hold professional liability insurance and workers’ compensation insurance.
• Make-up policy – class may only be taught by another WLP teacher, fees to be
deducted/refunded
• Disciplinary policy – WLP Council will consult teacher, principal, and parents on action.
Lillian Hom moved to approve the World Teacher contract as presented. The motion was approved.
Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, September 24th.
Barbara Best has volunteered to organize the school play, and she is looking for a coleader. Auditions to be held in February and the performance will be around April 20th.
Abilities Awareness Week will be held the week of October 24th. It will offer classes the opportunity to participate in activities to make children aware of issues that special ed. children experience. There will also be a parent education talk with a special education focus.
The Ohlone Library needs volunteer help. 12 to 15 regular volunteers are needed. If interested, contact Laura Landolfi or go to Julie directly.
Traffic Safety – Need to find a community solution to solve this community issue.
Klutz Day school fundraiser will be tomorrow – Sat Sept 10th.
PTA scholarship fund provides for t-shirts, yearbooks, fieldtrip scholarships, etc… Let your teacher know if you or someone you know could benefit from this scholarship fund.
Restaurant fundraiser at CPK will be held next week – Wed & Thursday, Sept. 28th & 29th.
