A Message from the President

To our many new families, a hearty welcome to the Ohlone community!  

To our returning families, welcome back!   

As we get back into our routines of early mornings and packed lunches, we’d like to reflect on how integral all of us, as parents, are to our school community.  As parents, we each have made an active choice for our children to be here, for ourselves to be a part of this school community.  One of Ohlone’s Core Values is Teacher-Parent Partnership: “Teachers and parents are partners who work together to support the students and school programs.”  To us, it’s important that this core value does not center just on supporting one’s own child, but on supporting all of the students and various programs of the school.

The Ohlone Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) - your PTA:
-organizes many community events throughout the school year
-raises funds to support our school and classrooms with supplies, programs, and equipment
-organizes room parents to facilitate classroom community-building and communication
-participates in the city-wide Council of PTAs
-fosters environmental responsibility through the Green Team
-sponsors and co-sponsors parent-education events
-sponsors or arranges extracurricular opportunities such as our Foreign Language program, sports, & chess classes
-sponsors and coordinates the annual school play
-runs regular school-wide lice checks, including volunteer training
-much, much more

There is always a need for more willing hands in the PTA.   This is your school and your PTA -- all are welcome.  We have 5 General Membership meetings throughout the year (some in the morning and some in the evening), and attending one of these is the best way to begin to get involved or just informed.  Our first meeting will be Friday, September 4th at 8:30am in the MP room, and we hope to see you there.  (Coffee, tea, and morning snacks will be served, and younger children are welcome.)

In addition to the PTA, we are fortunate at Ohlone to have 3 other parent-staff Councils which support and enrich our school:

-the Core Values Committee (CVC)
-the Site Council
-the Farm Council

Throughout the year, keep your eyes on this Ohlone website for the latest info on what your PTA, CVC, Site and Farm Councils are doing and for the most current event details.  We look forward to an exciting year at Ohlone!
