Middle School Tours for 5th grade parents -- Sign up ASAP Partners in Education Offers Middle School Tours Fifth-grade parents are invited to visit the district's middle schools in a private tour offered by Partners in Education (PiE). Adults only, space is limited, advanced reservations are required. Please e-mail PiE at info@papie.org with your name and the one school you'd like to visit. All tours will last about 2 hours and start about 8:30 a.m. Tour Dates:
PTA Reflections Art Show -- submissions due 10/23 All Ohlone artists are encouraged to submit their art to annual PTA Reflections Art Show! Submissions are due Friday, October 23. Enter in either the K-2 or the 3-5 division in the following categories: Visual Art, Literature, Photography, Dance Choreography, Musical Composition or Video Production. Entry forms are in the office. Rules are online at www.capta6.org/reflections/parents.html. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Learn About the Connections Program at JLS Middle School -- Thurs 10/22 When: 6:30 pm Where: Ohlone MP room Are you a 5th grader or the parent of a 5th grader? Come find out if JLS Connections is right for you! The JLS Connections Program is open to all PAUSD 2010 Incoming 6th graders. Connections is a learning community of students, teachers, and parents where hearts and minds are inspired through challenging, innovative, and relevant teaching practices - including project-based and hands-on learning, differentiated instruction, and leadership development. http://www.jlsconnections.org/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PTA General Association Meeting & "Mandarin Immersion in the Ohlone Way" -- Tuesday 10/27 Time: 7:00 to 8:30pm on 10/27 Place: Ohlone MP Room All Ohlone parents are encouraged to attend. We'll start with a brief business meeting of the PTA at 7pm. All PTA members (that's you, if you paid your $10 PTA membership fee on the One Check Form at the beginning of the school year) are eligible to vote on PTA business. After the business meeting, we'll have a presentation by principal Bill Overton and Mandarin Immersion coordinator (and Ohlone founding teacher) Jeannette Wei, who will share with us how the Ohlone Way is being implemented in our 3 Mandarin Immersion classrooms. An update on the Chinese Language Arts Standards will also be presented. (The focus of this session is the Ohlone Mandarin immersion general classroom experience, not specific room or program logistics, etc.). Well, you can on November 4th! Ohlone's first restaurant fundraiser of the year will be on Wednesday, November 4, from 11am to 9pm at the Fresh Choice in Mountain View at the San Antonio Shopping Center. A portion of your tab will be donated to Ohlone if you present the cashier with the flyer for the event. Meadow Dr., Palo Alto The 16th annual Fairmeadow Elementary School Harvest Fair features an array of family fun activities, a scrumptious barbeque cooked by seven award-winning chefs from Facebook’s CaféX, and a bone-rattling new graveyard attraction in the ever-shape-shifting, always hair-raising Scaremeadow Haunted House. The Harvest Fair and Facebook Chef Barbeque is on Sat., Oct. 24, 12-4pm. The Scaremeadow Haunted House is open on Fri. Oct. 23 6-10pm, and during the Harvest Fair on Sat. PACO will present the world premiere of Cohen's new jazz violin concerto, with Respighi’s lovely Ancient Airs and Dances and the dark, powerful Chamber Symphony based on Shostakovich’s famous String Quartet No. 8. This is a great company for accessible performances, and has received rave reviews for an opera company its size. La Boheme, by Puccini, is perhaps the most popular opera in the world. This is a fully staged production, with orchestra and chorus, beautiful sets and costumes. Come enjoy some of the most romantic music ever written, as you follow this story of bohemian love, set in turn-of-the-century Paris, to its inevitable ending. Sung in Italian, with English titles.
