Join the To-Be-Named LEGO NXT robotics team

We're looking for kids, parent volunteers, and coaches/mentors to join a yet-to-be-named LEGO NXT robotics team.

We currently have a small group of kids, most of them from Room 17, which meets once a month (rotating each month at a team member’s place) for team discussions and robotics projects. We have one parent volunteer as the coach now.

It's FREE to join the team but you would expect to buy your own LEGO NXT robot set and share some team expense for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) participation.  Potentially this team will participate in 2010's Northern California FLL tournament as a rookie team. Details for FLL schedule or FLL competition can be found at www.norcalfll.org

Requirements to join this team as follows:
  • Team Member: age from 9 to 14; available on Sundays and at least one weekday evening during FLL season for team meetings; prior experience in LEGO NXT/FLL welcome.
  • Parent Volunteers: have flexible work schedule; can drive for team events; software engineering or programming experience preferred but not required.
  • Coach/Mentor: available on Sundays and at least one weekday evening during the FLL season. Engineering background required. Prior NXT/FLL coaching experience will be a bonus.
We are also looking for a few middle-school/high-school students who’ve participated in FLL or FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) or FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) to volunteer as the mentors for the team.

If you are interesting in joining, or have questions, contact the team coach Niandong Wang at niandongwang@gmail.com.

Book Sale for Haiti Relief -- Continues
The book sale for Haiti was a tremendous success. Many of you donated books, sent your children with money, and donated more than the asking price for books. Our combined efforts were a great success.

Many of you also requested that we do it again next week, so in response, the Haiti Book sale will remain all this week in the MP room on an "honor system" basis. We will have a jar for donations on the tables. Please continue shopping the sale and helping our Haiti donation grow!

Family Math Night -- Tuesday, Feb 2
I noticed these times don't match the Arrow... checking with David...
When: 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, Feb 2

There will be favorites from previous years and some new games too!

This three hour event is divided into two sessions. The first session, from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM, is geared towards the younger kids (Kinder - 2nd); and the second session, from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM, is geared towards the older kids (3rd - 5th). But you can bring your kids to either session, or stay for both!
