Tuesday, May 25 from 9:30-10:00 in the library- Graduating 5th graders going to Jordan: Please come meet Jordan librarian Annie McQueen in the library. She will answer summer reading questions, as well as questions about being a 6th grader at Jordan.

Lost & Found
Thanks to the 2nd grade Brownie troop and the 1st grade Daisy troop, the HUGE pile of lost-and-found items has been sorted and laid out for easy viewing. PLEASE look through both the hanging rack and the long tables outside the office with your child or encourage him/her to do so now. Items remaining at the end of the school year will be donated to the city-wide PTA Wardrobe.

Remember, the best way to prevent loss is to write names in/on everything. The lost-and-found volunteers can return items if they are clearly identifiable.

Ohlone Farm Potluck - Volunteer Thank you -- Tues 5/25

As the school year draws to a close, we would like to celebrate all the volunteer efforts at the Ohlone Farm. If you have helped at the farm this year by taking care of animals, helping at a weekend farm work day, supporting the farmers market, volunteering as a handyperson or attending a farm council meeting, please bring your family to the annual volunteer thankyou potluck at the Farm. It will be held on Tuesday May 25th 2010 from 5pm to 7pm. Please bring a dish to share (and your own reusable dishes if possible).

Immediately following the celebration will be the last Farm Council meeting of the year. The meeting will be held in the Library conference room, starting at 7pm. If you haven't attended one this year, please stop in and hear about what's happening over the summer and plans for next year!

Thank you for all you dedication, commitment and hard work throughout the year - the Farm would not be sustainable without families like yours.

Hope to see you all on the Farm!

Ohlone Fundraiser at Chevys, Mountain View -- Wed, 5/26, 11am to 9pm
Have you missed all the Ohlone restaurant fundraisers this year? Do you need a break from cooking? Why not share a meal with friends and family and raise money for Ohlone all at the same time?

Restaurant fundraisers have raised over $1000 for Ohlone this year. We can do better than that! Attend Ohlone’s last restaurant fundraiser of the year on Wednesday, May 26, at Chevys, in Mountain View, at 2116 W. El Camino Real, just north of Rengstorff Avenue (650-691-9955). Bring in the attached flyer, and Chevys will donate 25% of your check to Ohlone.
  Flyer: http://events.pausd.org/cal/displaymedia.aspx?whatToDo=attch&id=5

The fundraiser is valid for lunch and dinner (11am to 9pm) and extends to take-out orders, too.

The more people who participate, the more money Ohlone makes, so invite your Ohlone and non-Ohlone friends and family to meet you at Chevys or order take-out. Need other ideas? You can call ahead (650-691-9955) and reserve a table for the families in your classroom that can meet you. Or, you can have an adults-only lunch at Chevys that day. Do a good deed for another family and bring their kids with your family to Chevys that day. Be creative!

Remember: You must bring in the flyer for Ohlone to receive the donation. Questions? Contact Sylvia Star-Lack at star_lack@yahoo.com.

Cutting School Crossing Guards and PAPD Traffic Team -- Follow-up
Two proposed cuts to the City of Palo Alto budget are of particular relevance to the school community:
  • Eliminate all adult crossing guards city-wide (29 adult crossing guards)
  • Eliminate the Police Department Traffic Team (five full-time police officer positions)
Follow-up
"a City Council committee voted unanimously Tuesday to spare the crossing guards and traffic enforcers from the falling city budget ax. "   Final vote in June.

New Friday Night Film Series - Food And the Environment -- 5/28, ...
We're back, by popular demand! Don't miss our next "Films of Hope and Vision" film series starting Friday May 14, sponsored by Acterra, Silicon Valley Action Network, World Centric, the South Bay Slow Food Movement, and Transition Palo Alto. Lively discussions will follow each film.

Free Friday Night Film Series at World Centric, 7:30 - 9:30 P.M.

May 28 -- Two Angry Moms -- Two Angry Moms shows not only what is wrong with school food; it offers strategies for overcoming roadblocks and getting healthy, good tasting, real food into school cafeterias. The movie explores the roles the federal government, corporate interests, school administration and parents play in feeding our country's school kids.  (Note from Stacey A: this film addresses the grass-roots, parent-led movement to get healthier school lunches provided in public school districts - it's a great, motivating film about what we can & should be doing in Palo Alto! )
